Diary Stuff

Many writers keep a journal, it’s a great way to mind-dump dreams from the previous night and to clear out your head with scribbles of feelings and thoughts.  Although I have a diary each year (Mslexia’s Writer’s Diary) I don’t use it as a journal.

The pages within the Diary Stuff section are the online bits that I would otherwise have written in my writer’s diary but it’s not on hand so it ends up on this site instead.

My mind-dump method is random.  Sometimes I use the diary to jot down angry thoughts or write elemental ideas that have no strength to become plots but have enough substance to warrant remembering later.

Often I grab a notepad to write up whatever comes to me, this could happen while I’m in conversation with someone, or even while I’m doing something unrelated.

Occasionally I watch tv with a notepad and pen, studying the format and the content.  I avidly watch all types of documentaries (wildlife, construction, history, crime, space, etc.)  Such programs remind me how amazing real life is and how much more one has to ‘create’ when writing fiction.
